Aesop's Fables
The Wolf
Lamb
Once upon
time
Wolf was lapping at
spring on
hillside, when, looking up, what should he see but
Lamb just beginning to drink
little lower down
`There's my supper,' thought he, `if only
find some excuse to seize it
' Then
out
Lamb, `How dare you muddle the water
drinking ? '
`Nay, master, nay,' said Lambikin; `
water be muddy up there,
the cause of it,
runs down
'
`Well, then,' said the Wolf, `why did you call me bad names
last year ? '
`That
,' said the Lamb; `
only six months old
'
`I don't care,' snarled the Wolf; `
not you
your father;' and
he rushed
poor little Lamb and ate her all up
But before she died she gasped out 'Any excuse will serve
tyrant
'
