Aesop's Fables

the Cock and_the pearl

acock was once strutting up and down the farmyard among_the hens when suddenly he spied something shining amid the straw .`Ho ! ho ! ' he_said, ` that's for_me,' and soon rooted it out from beneath the straw . what did it turn out to_be but a pearl that by some chance had_been lost in_the yard ? ` you_may_be a treasure,' said master Cock, ` to men that prize you, but for_me i_would rather have a single barley- corn than a peck of pearls .'

precious things are for_those that_can prize them .
